5A- Identifying Local Opportunities

1. Title : Alaska's Cook Inlet Beluga Whales Continue to Decline Link :   https://www.gainesville.com/ZZ/news/20200128/survey-alaskas-cook-inlet-beluga-whales-continue-decline Description: In Alaska, there is a population of Beluga Whales that are called the Cook Inlet Beluga Whales. In the late 1900's, this species of whales began to decline all throughout the years until the population was cut nearly in half. This was mainly due to Alaskan natives harvesting the whales, which was made illegal after the dramatic decrease in the beluga population. Thinking this would allow the population to recover, the hunting ban had little to no impact. Thus, Beluga Whales were declared endangered in 2008, and they are continuing to decline rapidly to this day. Problem: The main issue is that these Beluga Whales are already endangered species with roughly 250 left in the world. If these whales are not preserved and taken care of, there is a possibility that they may go extinct, forever...

4A- Forming an Opportunity Belief

1. I strongly believe there is a need for more parking available around campus and less parking restrictions. This is my second year at UF, and the opportunity for the creation of more parking and the lightening up on perking restrictions has become more prevalent to me every semester. 2. The unmet need is the desperate desire for more parking around UF's campus. I believe that the people who need this are all students who have very limited parking options with their current decal and have classes that are scattered around campus, requiring them to drive to class. I think that this is a need that has always existed, yet it is one that I haven't realized until I was in the position where I found myself never ever finding parking whenever I would take my car out. So much so, that I even stopped taking my car out and making other people drive me so that I would not lose my spot. I am sure that students who are seniors now have come to realize within their 4 years at UF that it w...

3A- My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
Throughout my life, I have always thought about how cool it would be to be able to come up with an invention that would revolutionize history, completely redefining a certain something. As humans, it is clear that we all want to do something that will help the greater good of humanity. Although we don't know what that may be, we sure hope that we will find it someday. I think that one of the peak entrepreneurial moments in my life was a project I had to do in high school. In my AP Biology class, we had to come up with any sort of invention that would help the community. So I went home and talked to my dad about it, since he is always the first person I go to for help with these kinds of things. After a couple of minutes of brainstorming, we decided to settle on creating a water reclamation system. Pretty much the idea behind it was that the grassy medians that separate the opposite sides of the road will have a system that pumps access water back through the pipes and reuses it. It...

2A- My Bug List

My Bug List 1. Whenever I am trying to get to class on time, there is always someone who decides to run up in front of me and walk extremely slow. This annoys me because I walk really fast and I can't stand when people walk slow: I have places to be! The reason this bug exists is because I walk very fast (probably faster than the average person) and no one seems to ever be in a hurry, but I always am. 2. Between the hours of 10 AM and 3 PM, it is absolutely impossible to go to the Starbucks at Library West without having to wait at least 30 minutes. They take extremely long and even when I order a pickup order, it takes way longer than it should. This bug exists because it is clear that the Starbucks at Library West is inefficient. They have 2 people taking orders, a line of about 20+ students out the door, and only one barista. This is obviously not an efficient way of getting the job done. 3. Whenever I drive to the gym anytime around 3 PM to 6 PM, there is a ridicul...
