15A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Segment: My target segment is females between the ages of 18 and 25. Interview 1: My good friend who is a Sophomore, 20 years old I decided to interview one of my closest friends who I haven't interviewed before. For her, she says that the main factor in making a purchase decision is price. The price of something is always the top priority for her, and she says that being in college and being on a budget heavily contributes to that. For my friend, she admits that the price is the first thing she notices, and if it is way out of her budget, she won't even bother picking it up because she knows that she won't end up purchasing it. She is also more likely to purchase online, and in fact does most of her shopping from online boutiques. The reason for this is because there is a very large variety of clothes and other things for her to choose from online. Another reason is that it is way cheaper to find and purchase certain things online or through Amazon than it is to do so...

14A- Halfway Reflection

Image
1. This is not an easy course. This is a course that is very demanding and requires a great deal of thought, time, and effort. In order to keep up with the requirements of this course, I have dedicated a few hours a week every week and set out certain days of the week that I allow myself to work on the class. Having previously taken a bunch of online courses, I can safely say that this is a class like no other. Aside from heavy time commitment, the class requires that you really think about the world around you in order to complete assignments. 2. A moment when I felt like giving up was the last time we had to interview people for an assignment and the people had to be outside our boundary. This assignment was made extremely difficult for me because it required me to actually sit down with people and take time to interview them. I had done this a bunch of times before, but for some reason this last time was made extremely tough for me. I felt that all of the information I was gatheri...

13A- Reading Reflection, No.1

I chose to read Coco Chanel  by Lisa Chaney. 1. Everyone knows the name Coco Chanel. Chanel was a fashion icon born in France in 1883 who went on to create an empire known by millions of people around the world. I would say that reading this book about Chanel really opened up my eyes to her life and her upbringing, making me appreciate and admire her even more than I already did. One thing that really surprised me was that her first name was Gabrielle, not Coco. The way she got the name Coco was actually very interesting. She used to be a Cabaret singer and performed at a wide variety of clubs where her stage name was Coco. She was referred to as Coco by everyone, so she decided to keep the name since it stuck easily. Something about Coco Chanel that I most admired was her constant desire to break the status quo of male domination over females. She repeatedly tried to make products and clothing that would show people that boundaries are made to be broken. For example, the first p...

12A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior, No.1

Segment: My target segment is females who are between the ages of 18 and 25. Interview 1: My roommate who is a sophomore, 20 years old I decided that a great place to start off would be with my roommate who is a 20-year-old female and has very similar tastes and preferences as me. For her, she says that she absolutely can't stand the paper straws that she is given in Gainesville. Therefore, she tells me that she will gladly pay for a reusable, retractable straw that she can take with her anywhere because she really hates the paper ones. Since plastic straws are banned, she has no other option. She finds that she wishes she had a different straw whenever she goes out to eat and the only straws available are paper ones. Specifically, she really hates how the paper straws break when she uses them for over 5 minutes, and she then has to go get a new straw because the old one is no good. When she becomes aware of her need, the first thing she does is go get a new straw. This is beca...

11A- Idea Napkin No.1

1. You My name is Rebeca Puerto and I am a second-year Finance major with an interest in pursuing a Master in International Business. As far as talents go, I am pretty good at cooking, math, directions, telling people what to do, thinking of fun things to do, and I used to be good at playing soccer. Throughout my time at UF, I have developed a wide variety of skills that I believe can be put to use in various settings. I have taken academic coursework that has allowed me to become very familiar with Accounting, Business Finance, Marketing, Information Systems, and Professional Speaking. I had a finance internship last summer where I helped refine the company's pricing strategies in order to attract a greater market segment by looking at things such as target market demographics, preferences, and overall taste. I also became very proficient in Excel, as I had to use the program every day at my internship. I have certifications in Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Adobe...

9A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

My belief that there is an opportunity available is the belief that stores should not give out plastic bags with purchases, and instead should focus solely on selling reusable bags or giving them out during checkout. Interview 1: Background: This is my guy friend who used to work at Publix Luckily, I was able to sit down with one of my peers who is in the same business mentor club as me. Seeing that he used to work at Publix for about 3 years, I figured he would be a great person to interview since he dealt with this pretty much on the daily. He says that although he definitely sees this opportunity to be able to sell reusable bags rather than plastic bags, he realizes that there are many people who don't ever think twice about plastic bags. To be completely honest, he even says how there are people who don't even acknowledge the fact that global warming is even happening, thus they have no motivation to eliminate the use of plastic bags in the first place. Similarly, this ...

8A- Solving the Problem

My main problem is the exclusive usage of plastic bags in grocery stores nationwide. Personally, I see no reason in using plastic bags when there are perfectly useful alternatives available. My opportunity is the strict usage of reusable bags at stores in order to not only reduce harmful plastic waste that is thrown into the environment but because reusable bags are overall much more effective and flexible to use. Yes, I am aware that there are other alternatives such as using paper bags instead of plastic bags, but reusable bags are more durable, have more space, and are more environmentally friendly. I guess to me this has become more of an environment-related issue just because the plastic waste that comes from plastic bags is so high and harmful. I am aware that giving out reusable bags at stores would be less cost-efficient, but I also am aware of the fact that in the long run, this is the solution that will ultimately be in everyone's best interest. I believe that the stores ...

7A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

Belief: Grocery stores around the nation are contributing to world climate change through their use of plastic bags because giving plastic bags to shoppers after their purchases is essentially integrated into the American lifestyle. In other words, there is a need for the elimination of plastic bags in grocery stores and instead, the use of reusable bags. Interview 1: Background: My mom who gets groceries at least a few times a week After asking her all of the questions necessary to understand her need, she says that personally, she would prefer to be given a reusable bag rather than a plastic bag. She believes that the biggest issue with this is that grocery stores around the nation just give out endless amounts of bags, and many times they aren't even necessary. In other words, many times she will go to Publix and buy one item and they will still bag the item for her. She believes this is very unnecessary because she can easily hold one item without needing a bag. Also, she ...

6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

1. Climate change is leading to an increased number of natural disasters I was led to believe that this is an opportunity for obvious reasons. Climate change is something that we not only hear about daily, but something we feel daily. The effects of climate change are obvious and as undeniable as ever. Because of such harmful and intense effects of climate change on our daily lives, it is clear that the opportunity exists to either ban or reduce the use of plastic bags at grocery stores. I believe that the ideal customer for this would be anyone who either feels very strongly about climate change, or someone who likes to use their own reusable bags whenever they go shopping. I personally believe that this opportunity is a bit difficult to exploit, just because it is something that people are used to. Being given plastic bags at the grocery store is just another routine part of the day, and I think that completely eliminating them for good will definitely be an issue, just because it i...
